The Super Admin serves as a permissions and data management system for the Orcam Learn web app platform, which forms an integral part of the web application designed for teaching.

The Product

Background

In 2022, OrCam introduced the OrCam Learn teaching system. This system serves as an accompanying feature for OrCam devices, aiding students who struggle with reading and comprehension. The platform actively tracks students' activities throughout the semester, providing teachers with an accurate assessment of each student's progress. My responsibility was to define and establish the admins permission settings for this platform.

Design Hypothesis

Why?

My task involved overseeing an admin permission management system that facilitated a hierarchical structure for student access to information and editing prompts. During the design process, the focus was primarily on simplifying the complex task of managing permissions by creating a well-structured architecture. This approach aimed to streamline the process and make it more intuitive for users.

Behavioural assumption

What

The initial step in the project involved creating a matrix of different components to determine the level of permissions required. This was achieved by constructing a straightforward matrix of permissions, which served as a foundation for defining the access levels for each component.

I asked question about

What.
What role does technology play in facilitating communication and information sharing among administrators/IT staff, teachers, students, and parents, and how is it utilized?
How.
How do administrators/IT staff, teachers, students, and parents collaborate and coordinate their efforts to ensure effective communication and smooth functioning of the educational environment?
Where.
Where do teachers and students access educational resources or digital tools to support the learning process?

Empathy map

Super admin
The empathy map informed key insights for the Super Admin, enabling me to update user roles and permissions promptly based on changing requirements. This user-eccentric approach ensures a secure and efficient permission management system.

How I  discover which data teachers need to see and why they need it?
The research yielded four key insights for the product manager. data privacy and security concerns, especially among parents, led to the implementation of stringent measures like encryption and role-based access controls. secondly, personalization emerged as crucial to enhancing user experience, resulting in tailored interfaces and features to meet the specific needs of administrators, teachers, students, and parents.

Research Insights

The research brought attention to the paramount importance of data privacy and security within the educational context. Parents expressed concerns about the confidentiality of their child's information, and administrators/IT staff emphasized the need for robust data protection measures.

Design transforms research insights into user-centric solutions. Prioritizing diverse communication preferences, customizable channels, and collaborative tools foster seamless teamwork.

Define: Turn Architecture to visual component

I chose to implement the "Locked Gate" method, where users are presented with actions that are relevant to them and achievable. The visibility hierarchy is divided accordingly: administrators, who have broad permissions, can see all actions, while teachers and other users have limited visibility. Each user is granted access only to actions they are authorized to perform, ensuring a secure and tailored user experience.

Future Roadmap

What I have learned from this project?

Future Roadmap

1

Personal Use and Everyday Communication

The Orcam Hear app can be used in various personal scenarios, such as family gatherings, social events, or conversations with friends, improving the overall communication experience for individuals with hearing difficulties.

2

Education Settings

The Orcam Hear app could be used in educational environments to assist students with hearing impairments by providing real-time speech enhancement and noise reduction, improving their ability to follow lectures and participate in classroom discussions.

3

Contextual Relevance

AI algorithms can consider the context of recent meetings, including the industry, project, or specific goals, to suggest nearby people who align with that context. This helps ensure that the suggested connections are relevant and beneficial in the given professional context

What I have learned from this project?

I learned that incorporating storyboard techniques in the UX design process can effectively visualize user interactions and scenarios, helping to identify pain points and improve the overall user experience.
